Deer

There are many deer on the greenbelts, trails and maybe even inside our neighborhoods.  Generally, the deer are not harmful; more of a nuisance, especially when they eat your beautiful landscaping plants!  However, there are many varieties of plants that deer don't like.  Before planting, check with a local garden center or nursery for advice on what to plant and what not to plant to deter deer.

Some common deterrents that can be spread around your plants include:

• mothballs
• thorny branches
• human hair
• decaying fish heads
• blood meal
• garlic
• fabric softener

There are also many types of deer-defying sprays for the plants, such as rotten-egg and water, soap spray, hot-pepper spray, and many types of commercial sprays.
